What You May Experience Physically
In the initial phase of your breathwork session, especially if it's your first time, you might encounter various bodily sensations that could initially seem unfamiliar. It's important to understand that you are in a safe environment, and these sensations typically diminish with continued practice of breathwork. Additionally, if you feel any apprehension or uncertainty about what you're experiencing during your session, please feel free to ask for assistance at any point. Remember, you maintain control throughout the session, and any physical symptoms you may encounter will typically ease as the session progresses.
Some of these sensations might include:
- tingling or tightness in different parts of your body
- fluctuations in body temperature
- occasionally feeling light-headed
What You May Experience Mentally
Breathwork has a powerful ability to access your subconscious mind, where memories and emotions often remain trapped in time. As breathwork pushes you to your limits, it's common for mental dialogue to surface, attempting to protect you from potential transformative experiences. This inner chatter is a natural part of your ego mind. To maximize the benefits of your session, focus on using your breath and intention to overcome disruptive thoughts. By staying connected to your breath and allowing your subconscious to flow freely, you can delve into the underlying causes of your behavioral patterns. This process enables you to reconsider, release, and reintegrate these patterns into your body with a fresh perspective.
What You May Experience Emotionally
Engaging in breathwork can evoke many emotions, spanning from anger and frustration to sadness, love, and joy. By transcending the ego and delving into the subconscious mind, these emotions can be experienced more freely. As you dismantle internal barriers, surrender, and push through emotional obstacles, your body may naturally seek release. This release might manifest as tears or a profound emotional release. Whatever emotions arise, or even if you feel nothing, trust that you are undergoing the experience that is right for you at this moment.
Atmosphere and Experience
Breathwork sessions are typically held in an intimate setting with dim or no lighting, accompanied by impactful mainstream or instrumental music that enhances your connection to the experience. This environment fosters a potent yet nurturing atmosphere, ensuring you feel safe, empowered, and supported throughout. Each session begins with the facilitator explaining the breathwork practice and potential experiences. You will engage in 28 to 30 minutes of active breathing, followed by a calming release phase, and conclude with a guided meditation, guiding you through a profound journey of inner healing.
For online sessions, you have the flexibility to create your own breathwork space at home. Using your laptop or phone (headphones are recommend, however optional), you can immerse yourself in powerful music and guidance in the privacy of your chosen environment. Your breathwork facilitator will lead you through the active breathing, release phase, and meditation, concluding with an optional period for rest, additional music, and personal reflection.
